CIRCLE RESEARCH INKS RECORD DEAL WITH MELTING POT MUSIC!
For Immediate Release:
CIRCLE RESEARCH INKS DEAL WITH MELTING POT MUSIC!
Toronto's DJ / Production duo Circle Research are pleased to announce signing with Melting Pot Music. Based in Cologne, Germany, the label has quickly grown into an international force with artists hailing from Berlin, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam and L.A. to name a few.
Keeping their ears open for new funky sounds, the C.R. boys had been bumping MPM in their Dj sets and radio show for a while. Breakout's monstrous funk cover of Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock" had become a staple at their Do Right! Saturdays. So when they finished their new album "Who?", it was a natural choice to knock on MPM's door.
Label head, Oliver von Felbert aka Dj Olski, loved the beats and proposed releasing it as is. "Who?" is a Donuts style album made from some of the most classic breaks in the history of hip-hop. It's a throwback record but it's neither nostalgic nor retro. 40 minutes split into 36 (!) tracks that are celebrating hip-hop's history without reminiscing about the so-called good ole days. And it's got humour." But Olski knows in order to make it in these modern times, you need the whole package. "What I like about Circle Research from the start—besides the music—is the level of professionalism in the way they present themselves."
"Moving forward with a label of MPM's caliber is exactly what we were looking for," says Gil Masuda aka Astro, one half of Circle Research and the group's sound engineer. "We're flattered that Olski would consider us to hang with the likes of sophisticated artists like Kutiman, Miles Bonny and Lefties Soul Connection… and we're confident we have something unique to offer that compliments Dj Day, Marc Hype and Jim Dunloop."
"These artists are a perfect example of that melting pot sound that shows in our 'boom bap meets analog synth funk' productions," exclaims Nik Timar aka Nix. "Olski is definitely building a movement of underground producers that we're excited to be a part of."
"Who?" is set for a Spring '08 release, prefaced by a 12" single with extended tracks strictly for the vinyl heads.

ROCKIT! w/ DJ SERIOUS & *circle research*
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=7948663458
Join us Thursday January 31st for ROCKIT! featuring DJ SERIOUS
The man needs no introduction. I don't need to tell you that he was ordering the hip hop vinyl for Play De and TRAXX back in the days before MP3's even existed. You've probably heard about his mammoth record collection. Or how we inherited his radio show slot when he moved CIUT. I don't even need to mention his two critically acclaimed albums or slew of remix work that followed. We could use the terms "Juno-nominated" or "Canadian Independent Music Award Winner" but really, we don't need to. Just know that he's fresh off a tour with fellow Dj Dopey, and will be getting SILLY on the decks with us this week at ROCKIT!
ROCKIT! w/ Guest: DJ SERIOUS (Hip Hop, Funk,Soul)
and resident DJ's *circle research* (funk, electro, disco, classic hip hop)

MC Abdominal Un-Rapped: A Food Diary
http://radio3.cbc.ca/
R3TV Episode #38: Un-Rapped: A Food Diary
Toronto MC Abdominal is serious about fast food. He'll try nearly anything: deep-fried Mars bars, Jamaican patties, Wimpy's burgers... He'll even eat it slowly.
When we found out he was about to tour England with his partner in crime DJ Fase, we knew he'd be up to sample all the nasty exotic delights of English street and pub cuisine. This episode is his story, wrapped in paper and lovingly microwaved, just like Mom used to do it.
No doubt Abs is back pushing pedals now, working off that layer of grease. But since you're just sitting here with us (lazy!), relax and enjoy this artery-hardening episode of R3TV, and see how a man can suffer for his art. You want fries with that
