WHO? Circle Research! Two cool cats from Toronto, Canada called Astro and Nik T. The dynamic duo has been an integral part of the Toronto hip-hop since Showbiz & A.G. dropped their "Party Groove" EP (for all 80ties babies, we are talking about 1992). Circle Research are old souls when it comes to hip-hop and rap but their beats are brand new.
"WHO?" is also the title of their first album for MPM. A "Donuts" style throwback record - 36 tracks strong but only 38 minute long. It is based on some of the the most classic hip-hop breaks and samples but excecuted in 2008 fashion. Astro and Nik evaporate the DNA of hip-hop into a 38 minute beattape that is actually a real album. And it's fun too!
"WHO?" started as a show-reel / demo tape that Astro and Nik put together to show their skills and sound. It became an instant office favourite at the MPM headquarters and we convinced the duo to share it with the fans.

----------------------------------------------
The definition of a bombastic Mixtapestyle. Da läuft was funky.

CIRCLE RESEARCH INKS RECORD DEAL WITH MELTING POT MUSIC!
For Immediate Release:
CIRCLE RESEARCH INKS DEAL WITH MELTING POT MUSIC!
Toronto's DJ / Production duo Circle Research are pleased to announce signing with Melting Pot Music. Based in Cologne, Germany, the label has quickly grown into an international force with artists hailing from Berlin, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam and L.A. to name a few.
Keeping their ears open for new funky sounds, the C.R. boys had been bumping MPM in their Dj sets and radio show for a while. Breakout's monstrous funk cover of Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock" had become a staple at their Do Right! Saturdays. So when they finished their new album "Who?", it was a natural choice to knock on MPM's door.
Label head, Oliver von Felbert aka Dj Olski, loved the beats and proposed releasing it as is. "Who?" is a Donuts style album made from some of the most classic breaks in the history of hip-hop. It's a throwback record but it's neither nostalgic nor retro. 40 minutes split into 36 (!) tracks that are celebrating hip-hop's history without reminiscing about the so-called good ole days. And it's got humour." But Olski knows in order to make it in these modern times, you need the whole package. "What I like about Circle Research from the start—besides the music—is the level of professionalism in the way they present themselves."
"Moving forward with a label of MPM's caliber is exactly what we were looking for," says Gil Masuda aka Astro, one half of Circle Research and the group's sound engineer. "We're flattered that Olski would consider us to hang with the likes of sophisticated artists like Kutiman, Miles Bonny and Lefties Soul Connection… and we're confident we have something unique to offer that compliments Dj Day, Marc Hype and Jim Dunloop."
"These artists are a perfect example of that melting pot sound that shows in our 'boom bap meets analog synth funk' productions," exclaims Nik Timar aka Nix. "Olski is definitely building a movement of underground producers that we're excited to be a part of."
"Who?" is set for a Spring '08 release, prefaced by a 12" single with extended tracks strictly for the vinyl heads.
