Spandex Effect + Maylee & Pegwee Power + DJs John Kong & Circle Research
Spandex Effect
with special guest: Maylee & Pegwee Power
+ DJs John Kong & Circle Research
Doors 10pm. $5 before 11pm. $8 cover
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bio:
Spandex Effect is a young, vibrant 11-piece disco-funk band on the verge of exploding all over Toronto’s live music scene.
Founded in the fall of 2008 by vocalists, Alex Tait, Lizzy Clarke and Maggie Hopkins as well as guitarist Kevin O’Donnell, they knew something special was starting from their very first song writing session.
The Spandex Effect sound blends RnB, disco, house, funk, latin and soul into a juicy, booty-shaking frenzie. While their songs have a catchy pop edge (including luscious harmonies from their three vocalists), they also draw upon their jazz background to create interesting and dynamic arrangements.
All of the band’s members (including a rhythm section, horn section and even steel pans) have formal jazz training, so it was a great honour for the band to play in the 2009 Toronto International Jazz Festival in July.
This year Spandex Effect will record their debut E.P. and continue to bring the heat to their live performances.
