Uma Nota May 2010 edition w/ Samba Elégua ensemble + DJ duo Circle ResearchYo! Whatever you are doing for the May long weekend, start it on the Saturday. You don't want to miss this jam!
Samba Elégua returns to Uma Nota!
For the last couple of months Samba Elégua has been preparing their show for the Uma Nota jam and now Toronto's street percussion misfits bring you a special ensemble set with new grooves and killer arrangements.
The show will feature David Arcus, guitarist and arranger, plus a host of fiery local talent including: Juno-winning jazz saxophonist Richard Underhill (alto sax); Nick Teehan on tenor sax and Nicolas Bulligan on trumpet; Scott McCannell on bass; Tamar Ilana and Betty Santos on vocals; all of this backed by the Samba Elégua bateria, in turn led by Jon Medow, and Uma Nota's own Jonathan Rothman.

And we can't sit still about the return of dangerously danceable DJ duo Circle Research to the Uma Nota stage. They've been rocking it hard lately with a new release "Gardiner Express" and a number of successful outings showcasing their soulful hip-hop and electro-boogie efforts. Lots of hard drumbeats and crackly vinyl samples with a synth-funk vibe laid overtop.
